Nairobi named top city to visit in 2024

In an exciting development for Kenya’s capital, Nairobi has been recognized as the world’s top city to visit in 2024. President William Ruto proudly attributes this achievement to the government’s relentless efforts in promoting Kenya to the global stage.

Lonely Planet, a well-respected travel firm headquartered in the United States, bestowed the honor upon Nairobi, placing it ahead of renowned cities such as Paris (France), Montreal (Canada), Mostar (Bosnia), and Philadelphia (USA).

Ruto expressed his delight, stating, “Our endeavors to promote Kenya worldwide are yielding results. We’ve been presenting a compelling case for everyone, from investors to innovators, professionals, and travelers of all ages, to visit Kenya. The world is listening, and our commitment to showcasing Kenya as a competitive destination has been acknowledged by Lonely Planet, which has designated Nairobi as the top global city destination.”

This recognition is expected to significantly boost Kenya’s tourism sector, which is a key contributor to the country’s foreign exchange earnings.

“Kenya is a country of remarkable beauty, blessed with a wide array of breathtaking tourist attractions that span the entire nation, and Nairobi serves as its vibrant, beating heart. In Nairobi, we dream, aspire, and create a better future. We are a city that is bold, brilliant, and full of opportunities,” Ruto emphasized.

The President went on to elaborate that Nairobi’s recognition as the world’s top city for 2024 by Lonely Planet underscores its unique blend of global cosmopolitan influences and traditional cultural richness, combined with a youthful and dynamic spirit.

The list of top cities for 2024, according to Lonely Planet, also includes Manaus (Brazil), Jakarta (Indonesia), Prague (Czech Republic), Izmir (Turkey), and Kansas City in Missouri (USA), ranked sixth to tenth, respectively.

This accolade indirectly reaffirms Kenya’s status as an irresistible destination, where visitors can experience a beautiful country with welcoming people who are eager to exceed their expectations.

President Ruto expressed his commitment to continue promoting Kenya and Nairobi, inviting people from around the world to experience the incomparable beauty and magic of the region.

“We will not tire or falter in our duty to market and promote Magical Kenya and Nairobi, a complex and charismatic capital that offers countless opportunities for learning, exploration, and innovation. There is truly nowhere like Nairobi in the world,” Ruto concluded.

Lonely Planet highlighted various iconic experiences in Nairobi, such as traditional music and dance performances at the Bomas of Kenya, sunrise walks in the Ngong Hills Forest, visits to Nairobi National Park, and panoramic views from the Kenyatta International Conference Centre.

This recognition is a testament to the city’s allure and Kenya’s continued efforts to be a top global destination.
