University students detained after alleged robberies in Nairobi

Detectives are questioning four college students who they suspect are associated with a group that has been responsible for violent robberies in the Nairobi neighborhoods of Ruai, Juja, and Kayole.

This follows the arrest of a 19-year-old Kenyatta University student by an undercover squad of police officers from Makadara, Ruai, Embakasi, and Kayole in a coordinated operation.

His arrest is the result of information that he belonged to a deadly criminal gang.

According to the police, the guy showed the officers where his three fellow freshmen residing at Kwa Benson apartments in Juja’s Container neighborhood were.

The Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology students enrolled in a degree program in Development Studies were detained during the operation.

A fake pistol was found during a thorough search of the suspects’ room, according to the police.

“A glock pistol 8 used 9×19mm special cartridges, one empty pistol magazine, one white plastic face mask was found,” police said.

Along with other things, two laptops thought to be stolen property were recovered.

The crime scene was analyzed by crime scene investigators based at DCI Thika.

The accused were then led to the Juja police station for additional questioning before being charged.
