Ruto warns Lamu terrorists

President William Ruto delivered a strong message to terrorists causing unrest in Lamu County, vowing to intensify the fight against Al Shabaab militants.

Speaking on Saturday, November 4, 2023, President Ruto emphasized that his administration is committed to eradicating the threat posed by these extremists in the region. He also revealed that he had instructed his cabinet ministers to ensure the prompt departure of these militants.

“We cannot allow criminals and terrorists to set up camp here, which is why we have reached an agreement with our ministers that terrorists must leave Lamu. If they do not leave, we will confront them. The situation for terrorists here is clear: either leave Kenya or travel to the afterlife,” President Ruto stated.

Defense Cabinet Secretary (CS) Aden Duale echoed Ruto’s sentiments, cautioning terror financiers that their time is running out. He reassured residents that the government is committed to intensifying the fight against these militants.

“We will wage a war against Al Shabaab both in Somalia and here, and those who associate with and work with terrorists have very little time left,” CS Aden Duale added.

These warnings come shortly after Interior CS Kithure Kindiki unveiled a list of thirty-five individuals believed to be masterminds behind terror attacks in Lamu and the Boni Enclave. Kindiki urged the wanted criminals to surrender to the nearest police station, cautioning that the government would take necessary actions if they failed to do so.

“We will give notice to those criminals to surrender to the nearest police station, chief’s center. If they don’t surrender, we will look for them, we will find them, and we will take the necessary actions,” Kindiki stated.
