Church in shock after caretaker disappeared with Sh 1.5 million

Detectives from Kangemi police station in Dagoretti sub county are in hot pursuit of a man who allegedly broke into a church and made away with over Sh1.5 million.

The movie-like incident has left the clergy and congregants of Kangemi’s ACK All Saints Mountain View Church baffled, the money they raised on Sunday for development of the church disappeared from a drawer at the Church’s altar.

When the church elder John Wainaina and treasurer Elizabeth Njoki, went to the church to collect the money on Monday morning, they found the doors unusually wide open.

They would later discover that the Lord’s table where bread and wine are consecrated, had been pillaged.

Further, they learnt that the money that had been kept in a drawer beneath the altar was missing.

They immediately reported the matter at Kangemi police station and upon preliminary investigations, it was established that the caretaker of the church a Mr. George Mburu who has since gone missing, was allegedly responsible for the loss.

He is suspected to have tampered with the church’s electric power to disable the installed CCTV system before making away with the congregants’ contributions.

Meanwhile, detectives have launched a manhunt for the suspect who resided within the church compound, but immediately went into hiding following the incident.
