Chaos as Wetangula’s convoy blocked in Eldoret

The Senator was on transit when his motorcade was held up in traffic after protesters blocked the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.

Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula on Sunday, July 26 was caught up in chaos as residents of Ngeria, Eldoret protested the arrest of two freelance journalists.

The Senator was on transit when his motorcade was held up in traffic after protesters blocked the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.

He was forced to address the angry residents and promised to help the two journalists who were reportedly transferred to Nairobi by Director of Criminal Investigations for questioning.

“I heard that there were youths arrested from this area and I’m told you do not know where they are, I ask you to present me their names.

“I will look for them wherever they are and help them, take my phone number,” noted Wetangula while addressing the protesters.

The angry residents lit up tyres to block the road, a situation that caused a huge traffic snarl up on the busy highway.

According to reports, Wetangula who was travelling to Nairobi was forced to alight and attempted to convince the demonstrators to let the traffic flow.

The arrests have caused some backlash from a number of politicians including Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri who condemned the arrests.
