Ruto tears Raila apart over referendum cost

Deputy President William Ruto on Friday 30th October deconstructed ODM leader Raila Odinga over the BBI referendum cost. This is after on Wednesday IEBC acting CEO Hussein Marjan projected that it will take the Country Sh14 billion to conduct the BBI referendum.

However In a public spat, Raila has rubbished the projected budget alleging that the referendum should only cost KSH 2Billion.

According to Raila’s statement on Thursday, the  figure should not surpass Ksh.2 billion.

Speaking in Murang’a County, DP William Ruto openly contested Raila’s remarks revealing that the Budget by IEBC is just okay and further telling Raila to leave the commission alone.

“Leave IEBC alone because even the previous referendum when he was Prime Minister cost us about Ksh10 billion with 12 million voters. How do you then expect to spend Ksh2 billion on a referendum with 19 million voters?” he posed.

Ruto revealed that Raila’s theory was unrealistic and advised him to keep off the commissions work since he was no profession at such.

“This cannot happen! Kwa hivyo mtu wa kitendawili awache kutuhadaa. He(Raila) is not a professional in election matters and with his brigade they should not bring disrespect to the constitution”,said Ruto

Odinga, in a statement on Thursday, October 29, called for a complete overhaul of the commission over their recommendation of a Ksh14 billion budget to carry out the BBI referendum.

He claimed that elections in Kenya had proved to be a cash-cow which the commissioners allegedly used to enrich themselves.

“Elections have become one of the major avenues for ripping off the country through various schemes that are never meant to save costs or yield credible results but to line pockets of individuals. Those schemes are evident in the IEBC’s latest reasoning”, said Raila.
