Four suspects arrested with murdered IEBC official’s phone

Daniel Musyoka

Four people were Tuesday arrested after they were found with a mobile phone belonging to slain Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission official Daniel Musyoka.

Police said they arrested the men as suspects in the probe into the murder of Musyoka whose body was dumped in Loitoktok, Kajiado on August 15, days after he had been kidnapped by unknown people from Embakasi area.

He was the Returning Officer for Embakasi East Constituency in the August 9 polls.

Police said the detained suspects had handled the deceased’s mobile phone, formatted it before selling it to an unsuspecting woman in Kisii.

The suspects include three technicians who repair mobile phones in the Central Business District.

Detectives handling the case said they traced the woman in Kisii and recovered the phone before rounding up the other men who had handled the gadget.

One of the suspects told police he collected the phone on Mombasa Road on August 14, which was three days after Musyoka went missing.

He then took it to the technicians in the city centre for repairs and formatting.

“He says he did not know the phone belonged to someone who had been killed and that he took it to the people who repair the gadgets before he sold it to the woman,” said a police officer aware of the probe.

The woman who police is aging was questioned and let free as police may turn her as a witness.

She told police a relative bought it for her and she had used it for a month.

The detectives said they do not believe they have the prime killers of Musyoka, but investigations are ongoing.
