Mwangaza’s impeachment hearing in Senate enters the second day

The Senate convened on Wednesday for the second day of a special sitting on the impeachment hearing against Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza.

Mwangaza pleaded not guilty to the seven charges leveled against her by the County Assembly. Her lawyers argued that the process was riddled with vindictiveness.

During the first day of the Senate plenary hearings, the Meru County Assembly presented a number of witnesses who urged the Senate to uphold the impeachment of Mwangaza. They accused her of misusing and misappropriating county funds, making illegal appointments, usurping statutory powers, engaging in nepotism, and other related unethical practices.
