Kiambu County MCAs Dismiss Impeachment Rumors

In a recent turn of events, a group of Kiambu County Members of County Assembly (MCAs) have refuted claims suggesting their intention to impeach Governor Kimani Wamatangi.

This development follows closely on the heels of a previous ultimatum given to Governor Wamatangi by the Kiambu MCAs, providing him with a 21-day window to appoint County Executive Committee officers to avoid impeachment.

The MCAs, expressing their dissatisfaction with the Governor’s failure to establish an all-inclusive Cabinet, also demanded that Wamatangi appoint managers for Kiambu’s six municipalities, warning of potential losses amounting to Ksh.1.3 billion annually in World Bank funding.

Furthermore, the MCAs have called upon the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to initiate inquiries into the utilization of public funds during Wamatangi’s leadership.

In a press conference held on Thursday, Peter Mburu, the Representative for Kameno Ward, adamantly denied the impeachment rumors. Mburu alleged that these rumors were being driven by external forces and implored them to desist from interfering in Kiambu County’s affairs.

Mburu stated, “The primary issue we are grappling with in Kiambu County is external influence originating from various sources, including politicians, contractors, brokers, and other individuals who seek to destabilize the County Assembly of Kiambu.”

He continued, “Ultimatums should be addressed within the established legal framework of the assembly. If any member has concerns about county government matters, the appropriate avenue is through the assembly’s structure, not through social media.”
