MCA sentenced to 3 years in jail over Ksh.1.7 million bribe

A Nairobi Member of County Assembly (MCA), David Mberia, has been sentenced to three years in jail or pay a fine of Ksh.700,000 after he was found guilty of demanding and receiving a Ksh.1.7 million bribe to resolve a land dispute involving a school in Nairobi County.

The prosecution told the court that the Karen MCA demanded the bribe from the owners of Kiragu Waichahi School, which is in Pumwani Ward of Kamukunji Constituency.

However, Justice Thomas Nzioki said the prosecution did not establish a case against Mberia’s two co-accused who are also MCAs

The court acquitted them.

In his ruling, the magistrate further barred the MCA from holding public office or accessing his office.

The court order is set to be communicated to the County Assembly speaker.
