A man was attacked and seriously injured by his friend over an unsuccessful bet.

Jacob Owino, 25, is admitted at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral hospital in Kisumu in critical condition after he was attacked by his friend, Leonard Omenya.

Omenya accused the injured Owino for persuading him to place a bet of Ksh.8,100 which was supposed yield Ksh.49,000 in return.

As per area chief Barrack Oloo, an angry Omenya raged Owino’s home equipped with a whip and a panga before plunging on him with kicks, blows and hacking him severally.

Oloo additionally noted that Omenya approached the person in question (Owino) for help to place the wager only a day after he (Owino) helped a neighbor place a wager which supposedly yielded Ksh.1.5 million a week ago.

The accused is reported to have frog-marched Owino to the chief’s office in Nyawara before he was rushed to hospital.

He is currently in police guardianship at Yala Police Station anticipating to be summoned in court.
