“I mourned my husband a Nigerian way,”- Magoha’s widow tells off critics

Former Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha’s widow, Dr. Barbara Odudu Magoha, has told off critics who wondered why she did not wail as her husband’s remains entered the homestead.

Prof. Magoha’s funeral mass was conducted at Maseno University, Odera Akango campus on Saturday.

Speaking at the funeral, Dr. Barbara said since her husband was above 70, his death was worth a celebration.

“My husband was more than 70 years. The number of years that the good Lord gave him…please celebrate with my husband,” she said amid applause from mourners.

Further, the Nigerian born doctor of medicine said she mourned the late Prof. Magoha “the Nigerian way.”

“People were upset that I did not wail and cry when entering our home but I want to tell them that my new position in the family doesn’t give me the privilege to do public display of emotions. I’m a Nigerian and I mourned my husband the Nigerian way,” she clarified.

In her eulogy for her husband, Dr. Barbara mourned him as a man who gave a smile to many.

Prof. Magoha passed on about 2 weeks ago, leaving behind a widow and a son, Dr. Michael Magoha, also a medical doctor.

He is set to be buried at Umira, Siaya county on Saturday.
