Female activist declares interest in senate race

A humanitarian activist from Elgeyo Marakwet county Jerotich Seei has declared her interest to replace the outgoing senator Kipchumba Murkomen.

Seei is also a member of the Linda Katiba institute, a lobby group that fights for proper implementation of the constitution.

“Wakenya (Kenyans), we have worked hard to promote the rule of law and improved our lives,” she stated.

The senate seat in the county fell vacant after Murkomen was appointed CS Roads, Transport and Public Works on Tuesday.

Should he be approved by parliament, IEBC will gazette a date for by-election.

Seei feels she is equal to the task.

“I am ready to serve as senator for Elgeyo Marakwet county- building from bottom up,” she declare.

The activist, a fierce critic of the Building Bridges Initiative, is aspiring to vie on a UDA ticket.

She is likely to battle it out with Tim Kipchumba for the ticket.
