DCI issues update on Jeff Mwathi investigation

Investigation into the mysterious death of interior designer Jeff Mwathi has entered homestretch, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has announced.

According to DCI, Mwathi, 23, was murdered before being thrown out of the 10th-floor window of Mugithi artiste Lawrence Njuguna alias DJ Fatxo’s house at Redwood Apartments in Kasarani on February 22, 2023.

The death, which sparked public outrage, prompted the DCI to conduct an investigation at the request of its boss, Amin Mohammed.

In a statement issued on Thursday via their Twitter handle, the sleuths stated that DNA samples have been obtained from the deceased and other persons of interest “to ascertain whether allegations of sexual molestation before the deceased’s death hold water.”

Thus far, detectives have conducted an autopsy on the body where swabs from the anal region, among other samples, were taken and underwent DNA tests to ascertain if Mwathi was sodomized or not.

“We have taken samples for toxicological analysis to know whether some toxins were involved or drugs so now we will analyze and come up with results,” said chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor on March 31.

DCI says they are now awaiting a report from Pathologist Oduor, “which shall inform part of our final course of action.”

“Investigations continue to call for patience from the public and the family of the deceased as investigations into this case enters the homestretch,” said DCI.
DJ Fatxo has since denied links to the death, stating that he is ready to work with detectives to reveal the truth on the matter.
