Police officer faces murder charges after shooting husband

A woman serving as a police officer found herself in a tragic incident, where she is now facing murder charges after allegedly shooting her husband multiple times.

The incident unfolded during the early hours of a Sunday morning when the officer, Constable Lilian Biwott, returned home to their residence in the Ainabtich area of Kimumu estate, Eldoret.

A heated argument escalated between the officer and her spouse, identified as Edwin Kipchumba. Constable Biwott, attached to the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) Eldoret branch, is accused of using her official AK-47 rifle to fire shots at her husband, causing fatal injuries to his chest and head. Shockingly, their three children were present and witnessed this harrowing event.

Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Benjamin Mwande and County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) Benjamin Muleli have confirmed this tragic occurrence. They reported that the suspect, Constable Biwott, turned herself in at the Eldoret Central Police Station following the shooting.

Mwande shared that the officer had been on night duty before returning home, where a dispute with her husband unfolded. He noted that the official firearm she had been assigned for her night duties was used in the fatal shooting. Marital troubles had been plaguing the couple, and it appears that the officer’s actions were driven by anger.
