Pakistan issues statement on journalist murdered in Kenya

Pakistani President Arif Alvi on Monday issued a statement following the death of the country’s senior journalist Arshad Sharif.

Sharif was shot dead while in Kenya after he allegedly defied police orders to stop for inspection.

In a message via his Twitter account, President Alvi said the death “Is a great loss to journalism and Pakistan”.

Further, the president said,

“May his soul rest in peace and may his family, which includes his followers, have the strength to bear this loss.”

The renowned Pakistani journalist was shot dead Sunday night along the Nairobi-Magadi highway.

According to some media reports,  police have termed his shooting as a “mistaken identity”.
His wife Javeria Siddique confirmed the death early Monday morning via her social media handle.

“I lost my friend, husband and my favourite journalist Arshad Sharif today, as per police he was shot in Kenya. Respect our privacy and in the name of breaking please don’t share our family pics, personal details and his last pictures from the hospital. Remember us in your prayers, ” mourned his wife in a social media post.

Vocally opposed to the ongoing political developments in Pakistan, the award-winning journalist was specialized in investigative journalism.
