Ministry of Lands explains why lorry moved files out of Ardhi House

The Ministry of Lands was on the spot a better part of Saturday, after a video of a lorry ferrying files recorded secretly emerged online.
With Kenyans reading mischief in the occurrence, they took to social media, asking the investigation agencies to take action.
However, the Ministry later came out to explain why the lorry transported files from Ardhi House.

According to Lands Cabinet Secretary Farida Karoney, the Ministry has commenced relocation of hundreds of thousands of files, that have been scanned and digitized, from the Ardhi House headquarters to safe custody.

The CS noted that all the files moved belonged to the Nairobi City County Registry and were moved because electronic copies of the same titles exist.

The electronic copies will be available on the Lands Ministry’s Electronic Document Management System (EDMS).
The Nairobi digital platform was launched last year with the registry also going live, in a process necessitated by the Land Registration Act of 2012.

The process of conversion of title to the Land Registration Act was supposed to have been completed by 2017.

The day long exercise of relocating the physical files from Ardhi house kicked off on Saturday under tight security from both uniformed and plain clothed police officers.

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss Shollei had shared a video capturing the movements at Ardhi House terming the activities as irregular and anomalous.

“Irregular and anomalous activities at Ardhi House today are of grave concern. Movement of official documents in trucks by unknown persons, on a weekend when the office is usually closed, should be investigated,” the deputy speaker captioned the video.

The revelation kicked up a storm, eliciting mixed reactions online.
