An imam from Malindi Cunty has been sentenced to lifetime imprisonment after he was found guilty of sexually abusing his 9-year-old stepson.
The imam bought the son’s silence after abusing him with Ksh 10.
Sylvia Wewa, the Senior principal magistrate in Malindi affirmed that the prosecution team gave sufficient evidence that the imam sodomised the young boy on 23rd March 2016.
The senior magistrate added that the religious leader who is 37 years of age had betrayed the security and trust of the young boy who solely depended on him for love, food, care, education and shelter.
At the beginning of this month, the Magistrate gave two weeks to the prosecution team to have a thorough audit of the accused social life before he was given the sentence.
The accused who is facing two similar criminal accounts in court was granted a fortnight to make an appeal of the sentence.
A Muslim official for human rights (Muhuri) , Mr Francis Auma accepted the court’s decision.
“Let this be a lesson to all children molesters,” he said in a statement adding, “having worked with the family over the years, Muhuri will continue to seek justice and ensure rule of law is followed to the latter.”
