Seven legislators arrested for attacking speaker

MCAs arrested

Seven MCAs were Thursday evening arrested and charged today before a Kisumu court for attacking Homabay County Assembly speaker Elizabeth Ayoo last month.

Showing up before Kisumu Resident Magistrate Rose Ndombi, the county lawmakers denied the charges.

The ward reps were accused of being part of a group of MCAs who attacked Ms Ayoo when havoc broke out at the assembly last month.

However, the Magistrate accepted the arraignment’s plea and granted them 14 days to carry out further investigations, against the lot.

Among the detained MCAs is Homabay County Majority leader Walter Were Muok.

They will be detained at Kisumu’s Kodiaga Maximum Prison.

Other lawmakers who were detained include; Dan Were Ochieng’ (Kakelo Kokwanya ward), Evans Marieba Dada (Gwassi North ward), Peter Kaula (Wangchieng’ ward), Julius Odhiambo Gaya (Central Karachuonyo ward) Philemon Onyango Onditi (Kagan ward), and Paul Ongoro Wamunga (North Karachuonyo ward).
