Bungoma Chief of Staff Janet Manyasi on the spot after assaulting journalists

Bungoma county Chief of Staff Janet Manyasi on Monday came under scrutiny following her physical attack against two journalists.

In a video in our possession, Ms Manyasi is seen assaulting K24 TV reporter John Makuba and a Bungoma-based blogger Sakwa Omungachi.

The incident occured at a popular Bungoma hotel.

It started when the official in company of another lady identified as Mo, descended on the blogger for alleged frequent attacks against Ms Manyasi on social media.

The two would later turn against Makuba who was filming the incident.

“I’m a journalist by profession and I’m doing my job,” Makuba is heard saying in the video.

Ms Manyasi however, declined to comment on the matter when reached on phone.

The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) condemned the assault, maintaining that the attack violates the constitution.

“We condemn any form of attack and intimidation targeting journalists. It violates provisions of the constitution and other international statutes,” said Evans Teddy, MCK Regional Coordinator, Kisumu Region

Further, the council promised to follow up with the affected scribes.

“We shall use our internal mechanisms to follow up the matter.”
