20,000 positions for intern teachers in public primary and junior secondary schools have been announced by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

According to an advertisement, in order to assist the implementation of the competency-based curriculum, 18,000 teachers are required in junior secondary schools and 2,000 in public primary schools.

TSC noted that, “The Teacher Internship Programme is a one-year programme meant to equip and sustain competencies of persons entering the teaching service.”

Teacher interns will receive a certificate after successfully completing the internship program.

July 10, 2023 is the deadline for applications.

Primary school teacher interns would be eligible for a remuneration of Sh15,000 per month, while those affiliated to the Junior Secondary will be eligible for a stipend of Sh20,000 per month.

“The stipend will be paid subject to statutory deductions, where applicable,” the commission stated.
