‘We shall make unnecessary travels!’ Bungoma county announces

The county government of Bungoma has announced that they will embark on travels whether or not the public likes it.

This was announced by the Communications director Mr. John Nalyanya on Tuesday evening while responding to journalists’ queries on social media.

Mr. Nalyanya was responding to a journalist who asked why several needy children had missed out on the scholarship program, asking whether the governor Kenneth Lusaka led government would consider suspending benchmarking and travel activities in order to channel more funds towards the education sector.

Recently, the journalist noted, the controller of budget had warned county governments against travels and tours.

However, the seemingly infuriated Communications Director responded, “We [governor’s delegation] will travel. You can go hang yourself.”

Further, Mr. Nalyanya confirmed that the government does not know the number of needy cases in the county, who should be put on the Scholarship Program.

“That is a very difficult question. I doubt anyone has those statistics. Some needy cases are helped by corporate world, others families, others counties, and others churches etc,” he said.

Education is a Central Government’s mandate, although some counties including Bungoma rolled out Scholarship programs to fund needy cases.

On Tuesday, the media reported that a KCPE candidate with 405 marks at Mupeli Primary school in Bungoma county, had opted to repeat class Eight after the parents failed to raise his school fees.

Since his election into office on August 2022, Governor Lusaka has made about three international tours notably in Italy, Uganda and Zambia.

Locally, he has been to Mombasa, Nanyuki, Makueni, Kisumu among other places.
