Ruto announces radical changes to transform Kibera from slum to estate

President William Ruto has said Kibera slum will undergo significant alterations to become an estate in a decade.

Addressing congregants on Sunday at Deliverance Church International in Lang’ata, Nairobi, Ruto predicted that Kibera would be an estate in ten years.

“Hii Kibera iko hapa na zile slums ziko Nairobi, in ten years there will be no slum in that area. We will have changed it to be an estate. And God will help us to make it possible,” President Ruto said.

Ruto claims that the Housing Project’s goal is to relocate residents from slums to appropriate housing.

He also stated that the government’s plan to build 200,000 homes over the course of five years will give young people jobs.

“It will help youths get jobs, Kenyans will get houses and live in respectable places where there is water, electricity and roads. As for now we have about 6 million Kenyans living in slums and we must be concerned about them,” Ruto said.

A total of Sh35.2 billion was allotted for the housing program.
