Machakos Governor removes Philip Mutua as CEC-M for education

Following Kilonzo's removal, the responsibility for his docket was transferred to Dr. Consolata Mutisya.

Machakos Governor, Wavinya Ndeti, has removed Philip Mutua Kilonzo from his position as County Executive Committee Member for Education, citing concerns about his performance.

In an official statement released on Monday, the Governor expressed her dissatisfaction with Kilonzo’s ability to effectively carry out his duties in his role as County Executive Committee Member.

“I have assessed his performance and concluded that it is not tenable for him to remain in office as CEC-M. This decision is driven by our commitment to maintaining high standards of service delivery to the people of Machakos County,” the statement read.

Following Kilonzo’s removal, the responsibility for his docket was transferred to Dr. Consolata Mutisya, who currently serves as the CEC-M for Roads, Transport, and Public Works. This transition has left the Department of Roads, Transport, and Public Works without a permanent CEC-M.

This move by Wavinya follows a recent cabinet reshuffle, which resulted in changes to several ministerial positions and chief officer assignments. Kilonzo had only recently transitioned to the Department of Education from his previous role in the Department of Lands, Housing, Urban Development, and Energy.

Kilonzo’s departure marks the second removal of a CEC-M from Wavinya’s cabinet, with the former Youth, Sports, and Gender CEC-M, Onesmus Muasya, having previously resigned to pursue other interests.

During her interactions with residents at public participation forums across the county, Wavinya pledged to hold non-performing staff accountable, emphasizing her commitment to serving the voters of Machakos County effectively. She stated, “Machakos voters are our bosses, and all county government employees, including myself, are accountable to them. I will not tolerate negligence, and if necessary, personnel changes will be made to ensure our responsibilities are fulfilled.”
