A 37-year-old convict serving a sentence of 30 years in jail at the Nakuru Prison, scored 403 marks in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Exams.
Solomon Ngatia, father of two, was convicted in 2012 for attempted murder.
Ngatia was among the 19 candidates who wrote the KCPE exam at the prison.
“I am happy. It was beyond my expectation considering the conditions here,” he said in an interview with The Standard.
He said that he wanted to pursue secondary education for him to fulfil his hopes of becoming a doctor.
Six students scored 300 marks and above.
