Bunyala West Member of County Assembly  Carlbenz Okonya has been charged and detained on allegations of defilling a 14 year old girl. He was Tuesday arraigned in Busia magistrate court.

Appearing before chief magistrate Edna Nyakoti the Busia County legislator denied all charges levelled against him.

Magistrate Nyaloti ruled that the Member of County Assembly remains in custody untill Thursday September  28, 2023, following an application by the prosecution.

The MCA was arrested on Friday last week in Busia sub-county and was being held at the Port Victoria  police station.

According to the  DPP, the prosecution led by Faith Kaberia and Abraham Mumo had sought orders to detain the suspect for 14 days and opposed the bond and bail request by the defence  council citing witness interference.
