Education CS George Magoha has today released the 2019 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results.
The top student in the 2019 KCPE is Andy Michael Munyiri from Damacrest School in Thogoto, Kiambu County, scored 440 marks out 500 marks followed by three others with 439 marks.
On the second slot are Flavian Onyango, June Cheptoo Koech from Sing’aro Girls and Sean Michael Ndung’u of Kitengela International, Kajiado County.
Releasing the results, Prof Magoha announced an overall improvement in the examination as compared to 2018. He said there was, however, a drop in the number of candidates who scored 400 marks and above from 11,559 in 2018 to 9,770 in 2019.
Teachers Service Commission (TSC) CEO Nancy Macharia said that Knec recorded the least number of exam malpractices ever, but is going to investigate 56 teachers for the same.
CS Magoha echoed Macharia’s remarks noting that there were only two cases of impersonation.
“In terms of Malpractices, I am very proud to state that I don’t have much to say. There were only two cases of impersonation. None of the exam papers leaked and there were no fake exam papers.” Magoha said.
The CS stated that this year’s KCPE candidates improved in English, Kiswahili, and sign language. However, there was a drop in the sciences and mathematics.
According to the 2019 results, 527,294 were boys (50.1 per cent) and 525,070 were girls (49.9 per cent) wrote the exams. Nairobi, Kakamega and Nakuru counties had the highest candidature.
