Velvine Nungari Murder: Court frees main suspect on bail

The court has acquitted Joseph Kinyua Murimi on a bail of Ksh 200,000. This is after the brutal murder of a 24-year old waitress, Velvine Nungari Kinyanjui.

The prosecution’s application to continue holding him for 30 days was denied by the court following Monday’s session.

The case was ruled by magistrate Patricia Gichohi whereby Murimi was urged to be reporting at Kiamumbi police station every Thursday of the week.

Murimi is reported to have assaulted Nungari after meeting on a date on February 23rd this year, two days after they met at Sinnot Hotel at around 9pm.

The main suspect who claimed to be a married man left the hotel after one and half hour, leaving Velvine in the unlocked room to rest as she was exhausted.

According to the bar attendant, Murimi left with Velvine’s mobile phone.

On Wednesday 24th, she called her friend at around 1pm requesting her to tag along with another person so that they could help her to hospital.

The friends took her to Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral hospital, and according to the doctor’s test, part of her spine was broken and she had severe cervical fractures meaning she was raped by the suspect.

However, she died on 9th of March 2021 while receiving treatment at K.U teaching and referral hospital.
