NTSA withdraws Modern Coast license after tragic accident

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has suspended the operating license for Modern Coast Express Limited.

This comes hours after an early Thursday morning crash involving two of their buses that claimed at least 7 lives and injured 62 at Salama area on the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.

NTSA had also initiated a thorough investigation into the safety standards and operations of Modern Coast.

“The Authority has initiated a thorough investigation into the company’s safety standards and operations,” a statement from said.

NTSA Director-General, George Njao also confirmed that the company’s access to the NTSA portal had been deactivated and 88 buses grounded.

Police have been asked to impound any Modern Coast buses that will be found to be operating within the suspension period.

One bus was headed to Nairobi from Malaba while the other was from Nairobi going to Mombasa.
