Messi agrees to join PSG after leaving Barcelona

Lionel Messi has agreed on a deal with Paris St-Germain to join the French club following his shock exit from Barcelona as reports indicate.

Messi arrived today at Barcelona’s El Prat airport bound for Paris where he is set to complete a move to Paris Saint-Germain. This is after the 34-year-old Argentinian superstar became a free agent after the collapse of his new deal with Barcelona.

Messi joined Barca when he was 13 years old and scored a record of 672 goals in 778 games for the club hence considered one of the greatest players of all time (G.O.A.T). He won the Ballon d’Or six times and lifted 35 trophies with the Catalan club.

The signing of Messi who would be reunited with former Barca team mate Neymar at the Parc des Princes is one of the most remarkable moves in football history.

Messi had agreed a new deal on 50 per cent of his old wages to stay at Barcelona but the club could not afford to implement it because they were so far above the wage limit allowed by La Liga.Barcelona club’s president Joan Laporta had told the press earlier that Barca is facing huge financial problems ahead of the start of La Liga, giving the player a room to consider other offers.

“The situation we have inherited is abominable and the sports salary bill represents 110 per cent of the club’s income. We have no margin for salaries,” said the club’s President.

Messi is expected to make his PSG debut at home to Strasbourg on Saturday if the deal with the club goes through quickly.
