Health CS warns hospitals that fail to meet service standards will be downgraded

Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha has issued a warning to public hospitals that do not meet their designated service levels, stating that they will face downgrades.

During a speech on Tuesday, November 13, Nakhumicha announced that comprehensive inspections will be carried out in all healthcare facilities to evaluate their compliance with their specified level designations.

Nakhumicha emphasized that any hospital found delivering services below its designated level will be immediately downgraded.

“If a hospital is designated as level 4, it must provide services in line with that level. Facilities found to provide services below their designated level will be subject to downgrade. Our aim is to ensure that facilities provide services they are adequately prepared to offer,” Nakhumicha said.

The CS highlighted the importance of each hospital fulfilling the expectations associated with its level.

“I expect that if a hospital is level 4, it must properly offer level 4 services. Upon assessment, if it is determined that the hospital is not at level 4, we will downgrade it to level 3, and work with them to improve equipment and fulfill the necessary requirements to bring it back to level 4,” the CS cautioned.

She further explained that during the inspection process, any potential upgrades will not be overlooked.

“As part of the inspection, if it’s found that a facility currently at level 4 should be at level 5, we will upgrade it to level 5. We want facilities to provide services that they are fully prepared to offer,” she added.
