Women benefit from self help group

The novel Covid-19 disease has created economic crisis that has seen many losing jobs, hence making life unbearable especially for women.

However, Chemses women self-help group has intervened to cushion women against Coronavirus heat through various projects.

Nominated Member of county assembly Jane Chepkorom who, the pioneer of the group, urged women to form groups for self sustainability. She said this on Wednesday at a function where a member was issued with in a cow.

“We have several projects that aim at improving the livelihood of women in Mt. Elton. Some of them involve bee and livestock keeping among other activities. The group works on rotational basis to ensure each member benefits from our projects.”

Mrs. Chepkorom used the chance to encourage residents to embrace traditional foods as a way of eliminating nutritional related illnesses.

She added that her group has worked in conjunction with other international charity programs that aim at improving the lives of the less privileged in the society.

Meanwhile, one of the beneficiaries did not hide her happiness after receiving a cow from the group project.

“I am delighted for receiving this cow from Chemses women help group. It will help me get my children to school through milk sales as well as catering for other expenses. Covid-19 had paralyzed my earning making life hard.”

The organization called upon political leaders as well as sponsors to come out and help such groups as a way of empowering women in the society.
