President Uhuru Kenyatta has said the government will reclaim all grabbed parcels of land across the nation.

Speaking in Mombasa during the launch of the Kenya Coast Guard Service, he said private developers have grabbed public lands and fish landing sites at the Coast and around Lake Victoria.

“We shall not plead with land grabbers to return public land. They must do so immediately before we embark on an exercise to reclaim them forcefully,” Uhuru warned.

The president ordered the National Land Commission and the department of Fisheries to reclaim the parcels before March 2019.

Uhuru thanked One Holding Limited for returning the Liwatoni jetty, which it had grabbed, back to the government.

“I wish to thank One Holding Limited for voluntarily returning Liwatoni to the government for its rightful use,” he said.

In the meantime, the President cautioned cabinet secretaries and government authorities against laxity and being fixated on media publicity. He instructed them to center around their work.

He said he could commission the Coast Guard Service with limited assets and CSs ought to do likewise.
