Victor Wanyama, a Kenyan midfielder who is now without a club, has come out of retirement from international play and is now available for selection by the Harambee Stars.

After meeting with Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba, Wanyama decided to rejoin the Harambee Stars team.

The midfielder had a one-on-one meeting with the Sports CS on Thursday. His contract with the Canadian professional soccer team CF Montreal expires this month.

The CS announced on his official Twitter account that Wanyama had made a U-turn after the discussion.

“Am delighted Victor Wanyama has agreed to return fully to Harambee Stars, rescinding his earlier decision to exit the team. In our mission to rebuild our football and elevate our national teams, our elite players must be at the heart of this renaissance,” Mr Namwamba said.

The CS went on to say that Wanyama’s partnership with Kenyan striker Michael Olunga will help the squad reach new heights, and that President William Ruto’s administration will go above and beyond to help the team succeed.

After being sidelined by the former coach Ghost Mulee, Wanyama made the announcement of his resignation from the national team in September of last year.

Wanyama’s choice comes just two weeks after Fifa, the body that governs world football, lifted a suspension on Kenya after the government abolished Football Kenya Federation.

The Kenyan national team was unable to participate in any international competitions due to the ban. Additionally, the restriction was lifted a few days after Mr. Namwamba visited with Fifa President Gianni Infantino in Qatar.
