Teacher charged with killing of 13-year-old girl and her baby

A teacher of Gethsemane Academy in Mbita Sub-County has been charged over the killing of a 13-year-old girl and her 10-month-old baby, who he supposedly sired.

Eric Otieno Ooko was yesterday summoned in Homa Bay High Court and charged for the killing of Rihana Nafula and her little baby-girl Everlyn Aoko.

He was accounted for to have slaughtered the minor and her child subsequent to sexually abusing her last year. It is through the act that he is speculated to have impregnated the the Class 8 girl.

Ooko murdered Nafula and covered her lifeless body in a shallow grave close to his home in the wake of choking her baby Everlyn and disposed her body in a thicket.

As indicated by the Mbita Sub-county Directorate of Criminal Investigations officer, Philip Sang, the teacher committed the offense to meddle with witnesses in a case of defilement against him at a court in Mbita.

In any case, before the case was withdrawn, Ooko was accused of scheme to interfere with witnesses.

Ooko vanished from his village after Nafula and her daughter’s bodies were found by a resident from the village.

He was later charged after DCI detectives arrested him at Obunga home in Kisumu.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges before Justice Joseph Karanjah. The prosecution asked the court not to grant him bond.

Prosecutor Valerie Ongeti argued that the bond would make him to interfere with witnesses for the case.

“It is the right of an accused person to be granted bond, but this one can interfere with witnesses. Kindly deny him bond,” Ms Ongeti argued.

Making his ruling, Justice Karanjah ordered that Ooko be jailed without bond.

The case will be heard on April 6, 2020.
