The National Police Service (NPS) has dropped the position of OCPD and named sub-county police commandants (SCPCs) as a part of the changes meant for adjusting the police geographic and operational boundaries with the current administrative boundaries.

Subsequently, a portion of the OCPDs have been sent as SCPCs. Altogether, 322 SCPCs will be delegated countrywide. Nairobi County will have 11 SCPCs, down from the 14 OCPDs.

Previous Kilimani OCPD Michael Muchiri will currently be the SCPC Kibra, while the Kayole Division has been put under Njiru Sub-region, with Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Wilson Kosgei in control.

Central Police Station, which was under Robinson Thuku, has been put under Starehe Sub-county, with Stanley Peter Atavachi named the SCPC.

Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Kiambu, Murang’a and Nyandarua districts will have eight, five, 13, eight and seven sub-region police divisions individually.

Mombasa County has six sub-counties: Mombasa Central (Mr Eliud Arumba) Changamwe (Mr Daudi Loronyokwe), Kisauni (Mr Julius Irungu), Likoni (Mr Benjamin Rotich), Jomvu (Mr James Mutua) and Nyali (Ms Jane Njeri Mukuria).

The changes come after President Uhuru’s declaration on rearranging the command structure last November. They started with the senior most positions, however have now achieved the lower levels.

Police headquarters headed by officers telling station (OCSs) will be put under ward leaders.
