Stop misleading voters, MP Kapondi warns rivals

Member of Parliament for Mt. Elgon constituency Hon. Fred Chesebe Kapondi addressing residents in Chemoge location during a fundraising.

Mt. Elgon Member of Parliament Fred Kapondi is advising parliamentarian hopefuls in the Constituency to desist from spreading rumours, but instead let him work for his people.

“I advise my rivals to stop spreading rumours about me. I am an experienced politician and I know what my people need. Young upcoming politicians should use other means in hunting for votes ahead of the next general elections. Spreading misleading information to Wananchi should not be the game,” warned Kapondi.

He said this at a fundraiser to help construct a mission church in Chemweusus, Mt. Elgon.

The function had been organized by Blessed Wells church.

The fundraiser-cum-political battle ground witnessed MP hopefuls wooing support ahead of the upcoming 2022 general elections.

Among them was Robin Kesis who is eyeing to dethrone Kapondi. He accused incumbent MP of failing to represent the electorate’s interests in constitution drafting.

Mr. Kesis added that Kapond may not fight for the upgrading of Mt.Elgon into county status, saying that he is the only option for Mt.Elgon residents.

“We need a leader who will articulate the issues the poor people of Mt. Elgon. It is time for the youths to stand and challenge the current leadership.” He said.

However, MCA for Cheptais Jane Chebet who also eyes for MP seat accused the voters of dividing the leaders by spreading misleading information that hinders development.

“I urge the residents to give time to the elected leaders to implement projects, adding that citizens should shun away from being used by politicians as it may hinder the growth of the economy.”

On their part, church leaders led by Pst. Jane Mbatiany advised political leaders to ensure residents get access to the BBI documents.

She advised religious leaders against getting involved in divisive politics.
