Sonko rushed to hospital in the wake of becoming sick

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) in the wake of becoming sick at Kamiti Prison last evening.

During court procedures prior in the day, Sonko’s legal advisors had applied for bail, on grounds that he required urgent medical consideration.

The indictment contradicted the application in light of the fact that Sonko was a flight risk having escaped from prison previously.

In his decision, Anti-Corruption Court Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti ordered that the governor’s admission to a health facility be approved by the jails medical centre.

“Due to the urgency of the medical treatment of accused one (Mike Sonko), though disputed, it’s ordered that his admission to hospital will be certified by the prisons medical centre in the presence of his physician in order to be escorted to any other hospital for his medical attention as soon as that can be arranged,” he said.

Sonko and eight others who were accused alongside him denied corruption charges and other economic crimes labeled against them at Milimani Law Courts on December 9, 2019.
