Residents of Nabisiongo village in Matayos constituency, Busia County were shocked after a man believed to be dead and buried returned home.

Steven Ogolla, 40, is currently under the watch of the police at the region’s deputy county commissioner’s offices, after some bodaboda operators carried him and handed him to police officers at Matayos Police Post.

The family says Ogolla went missing a few weeks before they launched a search mission. A couple of days after the incident, word went round that a dead body that was already decaying had been seen floating on River Sio.

Cops led by Busia OCS Julius Lingole took the body to the funeral home and Ogolla’s relatives were called to identify the body. They said the body was their son’s and took it for burial.

“I couldn’t tell how a brother, whose body we had identified and buried could be alive,” says Steven Ouma, Ogolla’s brother.

Ogolla says he’s still confused by the news that his family had “buried” him.

He is now calling on the government to exhume the body buried in his compound by his family who thought it was him.

Ogolla reveals that he has been living in Port Victoria where he has been fishing to make ends meet but he did not let his family know when he left home.

On the day of the burial irate locals slid on the home of the individual they believed had killed him.

Yesterday, the father of six appealed to elders to perform rituals before he could enter his home.
