President Ruto promises this to inexperienced first-term Governors after the Meru drama

President William Ruto has promised to assist inexperienced first-term governors in learning how to run their counties.

President Ruto spoke on the conflict in Meru County between the ward representatives and Governor Kawira Mwangaza and promised her and others his complete support.

“We will support all our Governors,” he said on Wednesday during a joint Television interview.

Governor Mwangaza survived an impeachment motion in December 2022 after the Senate dismissed all of the allegations leveled against her by the assembly.

The Assembly had compiled a list of 62 charges against the Governor.

During the interview, the President revealed that his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, had initiated reconciliation talks between the Governor and County Assembly members.

Gachagua confirmed on Wednesday evening that a five-year meeting between the Governor and ward representatives had taken place.

“We will make sure that we support them politically because the Governor does not have so much experience in managing the county,” President Ruto said.

However, the Head of State clarified that his efforts to assist the Governors should not be interpreted as micromanaging them.

Concerning Nairobi County, President Ruto stated that he will intervene as needed to assist Governor Johnson Sakaja in carrying out his mandate effectively.

“There are issues in the County. The Governor sometimes gets it right, some maybe he needs more consultation and that is why I am there,” he said.

In a recent argument over the administration of city affairs, Deputy President Gachagua demanded of Governor Sakaja that he quit “interfering with Kikuyu companies.”

He sternly told Sakaja not to move matatus from the CBD to the new Green Park terminus, which has since elicited a range of responses from political leaders.
