Police raid former CS Fred Matiang’i’s Karen home

A contingent of multi-agency police officers on Wednesday afternoon raided former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i’s Karen home.

The motive of the raid still remains unclear, although it is believed to be looking for a CCTV footage as they investigate purported raid last week.

The raid at Matiang’i’s home comes hours after the court earlier in the day declined to grant the Directorate of Criminal Investigations orders to access CCTV footage of his residence.

Through an application dated February 10, the DCI had asked the court to direct the manager of Amsec Security Services, which mans Dr Matiangi’s home, to hand over security footage for the period between 6 am, February 8 and 11 pm, February 9.

According to DCI, claims of police raid on Wednesday last week was a “well coordinated and deliberate attempt to spread false information and incite public fear.”

However, despite the court order, the police still forced their way into Dr. Matiang’i’s home.

“They rammed into the gate with their land cruiser, broke into the compound, and arrested the watchman, after which they broke into the house. They were looking for these items even in the toilet cistern,” said Danstan Omari, Matiang’i’s lawyer.

In the matter before court, he magistrate had ordered that the matter be mentioned on March 7.

According to Omari, the former CS was not at the home at the time of the raid.
