Parliament in mourning after another MP dies

Barely a month after Matungu Member of Parliament Justus Murunga died, the Kenyan parliament is in mourning after death has robbed it of another parliamentarian.

Kabuchai Member of Parliament James Lusweti is dead. Reports reveal that the MP died on Friday morning after battling with an unknown illness.

At the time of his death, he was admitted to the Nairobi Hospital for an undisclosed illness.

While announcing his death, Webuye West MP, Daniel Wanyama eulogized Lusweti as a man who spoke his mind and took clear stands.

“Lusweti’s death is a great loss to the people of Bungoma County. As lawmakers, we are now grieving two colleagues simultaneously. Just the other day we lost Matungu MP Justus Murunga,” said Wanyama.

“Even before we bury Murunga, another legislator has left us to be with the Lord. The late Lusweti, who died this morning, will be remembered as a man who spoke his mind and took clear stands. He always wanted the great Luhya nation to be united, and not just for the sake of it, but for a clear purpose,” he added.

Leaders took to Twitter on Friday to eulogize the legislator.

Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula said, “It’s with profound shock and sorrow to learn of the passing on of Hon James Lusweti Mukwe, Kabuchai MP. He will be remembered as a hardworking & loyal member of Fk party who served his people with utmost honesty, commitment & accountability. RIP kuka.”

ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi said, “I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Kabuchai MP Hon. James Lusweti Mukwe of FORD -K Party. I pray that God will grant his family strength during this unfortunate time. My most sincere condolences to his family, friends and the people of the larger Bungoma County”.

“We are saddened by the loss of Honorable James Lusweti Mukwe; a progressive, selfless and enterprising leader who has been instrumental in the unity and transformation of Western region”. wrote Ruto.
