Tension rage high at Friends School Kamusinga (FSK) in Bungoma County after a student tested positive for Covid-19.

The patient is a form four student. He tested positive to the novel Coronavirus after exhibiting symptoms associated with the virus.

Speaking to a local news outlet on Saturday, October 24, Bungoma county Health CEC Dr. Antony Walela said a medical team had been dispatched to the school to do mass testing of all students, teachers and non-teaching staff.

“Those who will test positive will be placed under immediate quarantine within the school or in our county isolation centres depending on the condition and situation” Dr. Walela told the outlet.

Latest in schools

The case at the academic giant is the latest in learning institutions, after two schools; Star of the Sea and Tononoka Schools in Momnbasa county were shut down over the same.

FSK becomes the third in the former western province, after two other schools in Vihiga and Kakamega reported similar cases.

However, despite the increasing cases of infections in schools, Education CS Prof. George Magoha insisted learning will proceed as planned as experts continue to assess the situation.

Speaking on Friday after touring various schools in Mumias and Malaba, Magoha said the government has no plan to close schools.
