OCS cancels Ruto’s meeting in Mumias

Plice in Shianda, Mumias East Constituency have cancelled a church function that was supposed to be presided by Deputy President William Samoei Ruto.

The cancellation came in after the church requested approval to hold the harambee in accordance with the directives that were stipulated by National Security Advisory Commitee.

A letter signed by the OCS, Christopher Wesonga, cited concerns such as COVID-19 public health instructions and directives as well as security threats.

“Take note there will be no holy mass involving all the 10 sub parishes under the Bumin sub parish, which is ideally the entire Mumias East Constituency area of Jurisdiction at St Leo Catholic church Shianda on sunday, 11th October 2020, and there will be no form of gathering around the church”, the letter stated.

The news of cancellation has rattled the DP’s camp which has termed as unfair.

“We have sunk low as a nation. It’s unbelievable. Why stop church gathering because of William Ruto? Looks like an officially police state,” Jubilee Party deputy secretary General Caleb Kositany stated.

The disappointment comes just a day after police dispersed DP Ruto’s supporters in his much anticipated Kisii, Nyamira Counties visit scheduled on Thursday 8th October 2020.

Ruto was to be hosted by the area MP Benjamin Washiali who is one of Ruto’s allies.
