Musingu Boys dormitory burns down

Fire razed down a 504-capacity dormitory at Musingu Boys High School in Ikolomani, Kakamega County,  on Wednesday.

This came barely two days after the institution reopened.

Oparanya hall, named after Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, caught fire at aroundmid-morning.

Police say the learners were in class.

Western regional police boss Perish Kimani said no fatalities were reported during the fire.

she further added that investigations are still underway to reveal the source of the fire which is still unclear.

Sources within the institution also said this was the third fire at the school in a span of two years.

Similar tragedy befell the school on November 9, 2019, a day on which KCSE candidates woke up to shock after part of the same dormitory was burnt.

However, residents blamed the tragedy on the school management.

“We arrived here when the dormitory was on fire. We wonder why this happens here every time.

We think the Principal is at fault, for if there’s gas leakage all the time, why can’t he find an alternative?” They paused.
