Mt. Kenya leaders hold meetings in Thika, Nanyuki

More than 10 members of parliament from the Mount Kenya region met the National Service Party leader Mwangi Kiunjuri at his Nanyuki residence to chat the way forward for the region.

Kiunjuri who is a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto and a critic of president Uhuru Kenyatta’s government is touted as a potential political kingpin in the central region.

In what is perceived as an alignment of political leaders in the region to stake their interest, the MP s are keen on chatting a direction which the region will take ahead of the 2022 elections.

The region is divided ahead of the President Kenyatta’s succession which has been further complicated by the split in the Jubilee party.

“As you all know, (Mwangi) Kiunjuri is an elderly man from this region of Laikipia and central Kenya. He has been in politics for over 20 years. Is it wrong for us to pay him a visit for a talk?” Laikipia West MP, Patrick Mariru posed.

Nyeri Woman representative Rahab Mukami said the central region has a number of political leaders and they needed to settle on one to represent the region.

“We need to know the way forward for the Mount Kenya region. There are many people in the region. We see Peter Kenneth, (Anne) Waiguru… We also have Mwangi Kiunjuri… Everyone is trying to position themselves,” Mukami said.
