Messi signs two-year contract to step onto Parc des Princes

Lionel Messi has signed a two-year contract with French soccer club Paris St Germain, with an option to extend a third year.

In a statement yesterday, PSG confirmed that the 34-year-old Argentina star agreed to strike a two-year deal with the club with the option for a third season.

“I am delighted that Lionel Messi has chosen to join Paris Saint-Germain and we are proud to welcome him and his family to Paris,” said PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

However, there were no salary details that were given but according to the reports, Messi is set to earn approximately 35 million euros ($41m).

On his arrival to the club, Messi expressed his happiness as he looks forward to start a new chapter at PSG.

“Everything about the club matches my football ambitions. I know how talented the squad and the coaching staff are here. I am determined to help build something special for the club and the fans, and I am looking forward to stepping out onto the pitch at the Parc des Princes,” Messi said.

As revealed in a video by the club, Messi will wear jersey number 30, the number he had when he began his professional career at Barcelona between 2004-2006.

Messi is about to form a world-beating front three with former strike partner Neymar and France forward Kylian Mbappe.
