Man charged with raping Nazarene University student during graduation party

A middle-aged man has been accused of raping a university student during graduation of her friend.

Ibrahim Malukani Hamisi, 34, is alleged to have committed the offense on July 25, 2021 at Ridgeview hotel in Nairobi.

As per the police report presented in court, the complainant, 25, who is an student at Nazarene University in Nairobi, went to Loft Lodge a long Garden home off Thika road with her friends to celebrate a friend’s graduation at 8.00pm.

“Around midnight her friends left leaving her behind and become intoxicated with drinks though she remembered taking some few drinks,” read police report.

It was the point at which she was attempting to find her way home and attempting to get a taxi when a man at a hotel offered to give her a lift to Outer Ring Road where he claimed he lived in as well.

The complainant recalled that she boarded a blue Toyota Wish vehicle and sooner or later she saw the man had entered Nairobi CBD within Koja area as opposed to taking her to Outering Road.

As per the report, the complainant attempted to alight from the vehicle yet the accused hit her with a clench hand as two different men who were in the vehicle alighted.

She became unconscious after the punch until when she felt the charged undressing her.

She shouted yet he punched her face and she suffered wounds on her eye and mouth. He additionally strungled her neck to prevent her from shouting.

He managed to undress her trouser and underwear and raped her.

“When the complainant regained her senses after the blows she got, she realised she was in a hotel room. She grabbed her cloths and tried to run away but the accused blocked her. She managed to escape and ran downstairs,” read the report.

A security woman at the lodging assisted her with getting a taxi home. She likewise saw the vehicle of the suspect left outside the lodging.

The matter was accounted for at Central police headquarters and investigations started and the said vehicle was registered under the accused individual.

CCTV footage was gotten from Loft Lodge restaurant and Ridge View hotel which helped police in tracking the accused.

The accused was found to be a staff at Classic Coach along Duruma road where he was caught.

He pleaded not guilty to three counts of rape, committing an indecent act with an adult and assault causing grievous bodily harm.

He was released on a cash bail of Ksh300,000 or Bond Ksh500,000.
