Leopards’ forward beat Gor Mahia captain to monthly accolade

AFC Leopards marksman, John Mark Makwatta has been named as the best player in the month of September by the Sports Journalist of Kenya.

Makwatta joined the Leopards in the last transfer window.

He featured in the opening match of the league when Ingwe lost 1-0 to Kakamega Homeboyz, before being held to a barren draw by Kariobangi Sharks.

The striker scored the club’s first goal of the season in a 1-0 win over Wazito FC in their third match.

Makwatta ended the month of September with a brace against Chemelil Sugar FC in their 4-0 win. He is currently leading the league goal-scoring chart with five goals.

He was crowned the winner with 15 votes beat off competition from Gor Mahia captain Kenneth Muguna who came second (14 votes) and keeper and teammate Benjamin Ochan who came third with 11 points.

The award comes with a bounty of Ksh 100, 000, a 49-inch Smart TV from sponsors LG and a personalized trophy.

Makwatta who grabbed a brace in their weekend 2-1 win over Sofapaka FC.

He hopes that he replicates the same when they come up against Ulinzi Stars in round eight of league encounter.
