The government has welcomed the Kenyan 2020 Olympic team back home after jetting from Tokyo, Japan today morning.

The Government spokesperson Cyrus Oguna lauded the team for their good performance at the various competitions.

“To all our sportswomen and men who flew our flag high, we are so proud of you and your achievements. Whether you won or not, it is the courage you had in yourself to represent Kenya to the world that makes you special for being great brand ambassadors of our country Kenya,” said Government spokesperson.

On the medal standings, Kenya was top in Africa and number 19 in the world after bagging four golds, four silvers and two bronze.

Eliud Kipchoge, Peres Jepchirchir, Faith Kipyegon and Emmanuel Korir raised the Kenyan flag higher by clinching the gold medals in their respective races.

On his final lap, Emmanuel Korir pulled off a massive sprint in the men’s 800m to give Kenya first gold at the Olympics.

World bronze medalist Ferguson Rotich grabbed silver when he gained momentum and sprinted just less than 100m to the finish line.

Hyvin Kiyeng became third in the women’s 3000m steeplechase to contend herself with a bronze medal.

Similarly, Benjamin Kigen won bronze after coming third in the 3,000m steeplechase as Timothy Cheruiyot shocked many in winning silver in the men’s 1,500m.

The peak of everything was when the world Champion Eliud Kipchoge won Kenya a gold medal clocking 2:08.38 in the men’s marathon, hoisting him to the front pages of history books as one of the very few to have defended their Olympic marathon titles consecutively.
